CHIJ 350th Anniversary Walk

Dear parents,
a big thank you for your support in the CHIJ 350th Anniversary Walk held on Saturday 17 March 2013.
Here are some photos captured during the event.

On a side note, we have come to the end of term 1 of academic year 2013. Please join me in congratulating Theresa for being awarded the Most Courteous Pupil Award and Sofia for being awarded the CLIMB Role Model Award this term.
Together, we shall continue to support and encourage the girls to exhibit good attitude and behaviour, and to excel both academically and aesthetically in the upcoming school terms.

Have a good break and I will see the girls in Term 2 Week 1. :D

Thank you!

Deaar Parents,

Time flies and we have come to the end of T1. Thank you for taking time off yesterday to meet me despite the heavy downpour in the late afternoon :) For those who could not make it but called or email, thank you! I appreciate your feedback and I hope that I was able to calm some nerves as well as address most of your concerns.

Some parents have asked for recommendations on enrichment books for the girls to practice. I will share some titles with you via email and please note that these are books that I have found helpful and are using with my own children. They are not the school's recommendation.

I will be giving the girls some holiday homework and will post the homework on the blog tomorrow.

Cheers,
Mrs Janet Chua

T1 Wk10 Updates

Dear parents,
your child will be receiving a letter from the school concerning the collection of transportation fees for the P5 Learning Journeys.
Each pupil will need to pay an amount of $6. The breakdown of the fees can be found in the letter. Kindly complete and submit the acknowledgement slip to me or Mrs Janet Chua by 15 March 2013 (Friday)

On a separate note, the school will be having the CHIJ Walk on this saturday 16 March 2013. The girls will be briefed on the event later at 11am today.
I would like to bring to your attention that all pupils need to report to school at 6.45am  6.15am and go as a school by the school bus arranged for them. They should not be going there on their own. Please also note that, for safety reasons, all pupils must return to school with the school bus as there will be a crowd of 10,000 participants and it is not advisable for you to pick your child from marina barrage.

Thank you very much for your kind understanding and support.
Have a good day ahead!

Warmest Regards,
Ms Vivian Ong

Trip to Road Safety Park

Dear parents,
just a quick update on our trip to the Road Safety Park @ East Coast on 8 March 2013.
The objective of this trip was to increase pupils' awareness of the traffic rules in Singapore. This trip was an initiative to better educate pupils about the importance of good road safety habits and to ensure the safety of the road users. This trip has provided pupils with the opportunity to put the rules learnt into practice by stimulating real life road conditions while they commuted around the road safety park. Mistakes/road offences committed by pupils were identified and recorded by the marshals on duty. Through this stimulation of a actual road condition, pupils were able to learn the traffic rules whilst under a fun and safe environment.

Here are some photographs taken during the activity,

At the entrance of Road Safety Park
It was a bright and sunny afternoon.
Pupils making their way to the assembly area yet not forgetting their gears to minimize their exposure to the SUN.
While waiting to enter the air-conditioned briefing room.
A 25 minutes long briefing was conducted before pupils proceeded on to the road safety game.
Pupils were assigned with a role each, namely the pedestrian, cyclist and go-kart driver.

Some points to take note of before CA1

Dear parents,
The following errors were extracted from the girls' work while marking. They should avoid making them during the CA1.

Error No.1 : No Number Statement
Please note that writing number statements will allow us to award method marks to them even when their answers are wrong. Working, as shown in the picture will NOT be awarded method marks in the event that the answer is wrong.

Error No. 2a: Wrong usage of Symbols "=" and "≈"
Please note that wrong usage of symbol will make the whole equation illogical, hence losing marks :(

Error No. 2b: Illogical Equation
 \

Error No. 3: Confusion of  units.
Follow through with the same unit of measurement until the problem is solved, before conversion.

Below is an example a correct way to present such solution:

I have reminded the girls to sacrifice play time , iPad time, computer time, tv time etc, this weekend and focus on revision :) A little sacrifice goes a long way!

Do go through Review 1 and CA1 2012 thoroughly.

Eat well, rest well and remember to sleep before 10 pm on Sunday.

See you all on Monday!

God Bless,
Mrs J Chua
