Impressed :)

Our awesome 5F girls really impressed the teachers with their positive attitude towards work these 2 weeks! They were so cooperative so attentive so diligent during class though the exams were over! Keep it up girls :)

Today I decided to give them some Chill Out time after going through a paper, after all, "All work and no play makes 5F a dull class". I showed them a video of a performance of a Marching Band (Click on the link to watch), and boy were they impressed :) Promised the girls that I'll leave the link on the blog. We also watched "Matilda" the movie today.

Mrs Janet Chua

Solutions to qns on patterns...

As promised, here are the solutions to the 2 questions on patterns which I had no time to go through in class today :)

Cheers,
Mrs Chua

It's the Final Countdown :)

Dear Parents,

I understand that it is a busy and perhaps "str@#&ful" (a word that I try to avoid using)  period for everyone.

Here are some last-minute revision pointers that I may suggest:

  • Go through ALL CA1, SA1 and CA2 exam papers as well as practice papers (past year exam papers)
  • Do a cross section revision of the process skills by attempting 1 or 2 qn from each practice WS in the Process skills book.
  • Read through the Revision Notes Cards. (A Big Thank You to all the wonderful parents who have helped in laminating and putting the cards together :)
Just a reminder for the girls:
1. For Booklet A (MCQ), it is a good habit to do your workings on the paper so that you can refer to them when you are checking your answers.

2. For Booklet B and Paper 2 (Short answer questions), you must write number sentences. Workings alone are not sufficient. Why do you need to write the number sentences? If you do not, I will not be able to award you with method marks if your answers are wrong.

A few things to take note:

1.    Time management

Please move on to another question if you are unable to solve a question. Spending too much time on a question will affect the amount of time that you have for word problems.
The maximum amount of time that you should spend on each section (Just a guide) :
Paper 1
Booklet A: 25 minutes
Booklet B: 25 minutes
Paper 2
1h 40 minutes
Qn1-6: 20 minutes
Qn 7-10: 20 minutes
Qn 11-18: 60 minutes

*At the end of 25 minutes, if you are still not able to complete the questions in Booklet A, you need to move on to Booklet B.

2.     Optical Answer Sheet (OAS)

 Please take note:

Use only 2B pencils to shade
Do the questions and shade at the same time (Do not complete all the questions before you shade.)
Do not leave any questions blank. Even if you do not know, shade at least 1 of the options.
(Well, at least you have a chance of getting that question correct.)

3.    Empty questions

Do not leave any questions blank!

Even if you do not know how to do, write down some number sentences, which you think are correct. You may be awarded another mark or two for your method.

So, please do not give up.

4. Messy handwriting

You may lose some marks if your words and numbers are illegible (which means, I cannot read what you have written).

For example, your ‘o’ looks like ’e’ and your ‘3’ looks like ‘5’.

Is it worth it to lose marks because of your handwriting? Those of you who are usually less tidy in your work, please be more mindful!

Do remember to eat and rest well, Go to bed NO LATER than 10 pm tonight! You'll need the stamina for tomorrow's paper :)

God Bless,

Mrs Janet Chua

Math Matters 11/10

Dear Parents,

The girls have received a set of revision notes prepared by me today. I seek your help in helping them to put the cards in order. You may wish to laminate the cards before you cut them up on to card size :) They have also received the "answer key" for the notes in case they are stuck. I sure hope that these cards will come in useful during their revision for the SA2.

We have also gone through the Semestral Review 2 (AB) today and completed going through the last few questions of SA2 2012. As usual, the solutions for the practice paper have been given to the girls.

Please feel free to contact me via email during this PSLE marking days break should you need any assistance.

P5 Outdoor Adventure Camp 2013

Dear parents,

the P4 & P5 Adventure Camp is just around the corner. I am sure the girls are all excited about it.

Before the girls embark on their journey to the camp site on 2nd September (Monday), there are 3 forms which parents will need to complete and submit to the school.
1) School Letter and Reply Slip (given out on 7 August 2013)
2) Edusave Withdrawal Form (given out on 20 August 2013)
3) Reply Slip comprising of Medical Declaration, Acknowledgement and Consent of Parent, and Certification of Fitness. (given out on 20 August 2013)

Thank you to all parents for completing the first form. A gentle reminder to those girls who will not be attending the camp, a parent's letter stating the reasons for not attending is required to support her absence.

Thank you to the parents who have promptly submitted the second and third forms. The deadline for the 2 forms will be tomorrow, 22 August 2013. Kindly take note that all forms have to be submitted regardless of the status of attendance. Please ensure that you have indicated the same response on both the first and third form.(i.e. 'allow' on both forms or 'do not allow' on both forms).

Please take note that all payments made are non-refundable.

Once again, thanks for all your support and cooperation.

PS: Kindly remind the girls to stay focus for their upcoming CA2 examinations.

For the girls who are reading this, remember NOT to get overly excited about the camp and neglect your studies! :) ALL THE BEST! *do pass on the message to your friends*

They have been assigned some homework in the AB and they can complete those first. I will give either give them a hard copy of the exercise on Thursday.

We have covered up to Decimals (Estimation)  today. Some of the girls still need more practice on conversion of measurements of length, mass or volume.

Math Updates

Dear Parents,

Please note that the practice paper for Math has been returned to the girls (Paper1 was returned yesterday and Paper 2 today). I found out that some of them have been leaving their WS and books in school! I've been reminding them to bring everything home for revision a week ago and I still find some lying around today :(. I've also gone through the papers and some WS today. Solutions for the Practice paper have been printed and distributed, through the girls, for your reference (many parents have feedback that these solutions have been helpful). The class found the practice paper challenging in general.

It is important to revise all returned WS, practice paper and Process skills booklet thoroughly for the coming SA1.

A few things to take note:

1.    Time management

Please move on to another question if you are unable to solve a question. Spending too much time on a question will affect the amount of time that you have for word problems.
The maximum amount of time that you should spend on each section:

Those of you who are usually untidy in your work, please be more mindful!

Reminder:
Booklet A:
Shade every single question with a 2B pencil.
You will still need to write down the answers on the question paper itself.

Booklet B:
You must write number sentences.

Paper 2:
You must write number sentences and word statement.
Be careful if the question is on Money (do not leave out your '$' sign... that sign is half a mark per question).

Please use the weekend wisely to revise for next week's exam.
You can do it 5Faith!
Do remember to eat and rest well.
Cheers,
Mrs Janet Chua

M(ath) and M and Ms :)

I introduced the concept of ratio to the girls in Friday with M and Ms :) It was a very happy lesson. I enjoyed it as much as the girls and was definitely a yummy lesson as well! Some conclusions we drew from the lesson:

There were about 16-17 M and Ms in each packet
The colours were randomly packed
The were at least 4 different colours in each pack (we had a max of 6 different colours for some groups)

Here are some pictures of the happy and excited P5 Faith:

Some creative designs made with their M and Ms

Yes! We can finally eat them!!! Hahaha
